Memorial Day in Cincinnati - May 18, 2017

Memorial Day offers families a 3-day weekend in which to honor those who laid down their lives in the armed services. Previously known as Decoration Day, the holiday was commemorated to honor the Union slain from the Civil War, but was later changed to honor all American fallen from all wars America has been involved in.

Despite the somber nature of the holiday, there's still plenty of fun family activities and events taking place in Cincinnati. From parades to backdoor BBQs, here's how you can celebrate Memorial Day when it hits later this month on the 29th.

Picnic in the Park

Head to Kathryn Stagge-Marr Park at 6692 Goshen Road in Goshen, Ohio, on May 28. Starting at 11:30am, enjoy an old-fashioned picnic. The menu features favorites, such as fried chicken, hot dogs, burgers, and more. There will be games to play, like cornhole and mini-bingo as well as live DJ music. Bring your entire family to this free event to commemorate Memorial Day Weekend.

Memorial Day Parades and Ceremonies

Various communities will have Memorial Day parades. For example, you can head to Veterans Memorial Park in Fairfield on May 29. The parade, starting at 10am, features veterans groups, military units, the Fairfield High School Marching Band, community groups and organizations, and the Fairfield Police, Fire, and Paramedic units. There's also food and live music following the parade and ceremonies. Check communities near you to see if there are parades planned for Memorial Day weekend.

Caring for Your Car in the Summer Heat - May 16, 2017

Taking care of your vehicle in the summer heat is just as important as taking care of it during the winter cold. The heat is brutal on fabrics, plastics and paint. When you pick up a used vehicle at Mike Albert Direct, you'll want to make sure it stays looking its best.

Use Sunshields and Tint

The sun's ultraviolet rays will ruin the interior of your vehicle. They will fade the colors, crack the plastics and will damage leather seats. If you can't park your vehicle in a garage, be sure to use a sunshade in the windshield to block the rays. Tinting your windows also helps protect the interior of your vehicle. Even a light tint will keep out a lot of the damaging ultraviolet rays.

Wash and Wax

Washing and waxing your vehicle helps keep the paint in good condition. It keeps the spring and summer bugs off, along with the dirt and dust that damages paint. Keeping a good coat of wax on the paint also protects the paint from the elements. Also be sure to wash your vehicle underneath especially if you drove through mud and dirt. Not only does it keep anything acidic from eating the underside, but it makes it easier to detect any leaks.

Detailing

Be sure you keep the interior detailed. Use the proper chemicals on the respective materials to keep the materials pliable so they won't be dried out by the sun. You can prolong cracking by keeping the materials soft and clean.

Why Buy from Mike Albert Direct - May 11, 2017

When you're in the market for a used vehicle, you have several choices - and not all of them are great choices. If you buy from an individual, you won't know the history of the vehicle and the individual may not disclose upcoming problems that could be major. When you buy from a small used car dealer, the vehicle may not be completely repaired. For example, if it needs brakes, the small dealer may put pads on one side but not the other, just to save money.

When you buy from a dealership like Mike Albert Direct, you're sure to get a vehicle that is ready to roll. All of our vehicles also have a CarFax available - you don't even have to ask for it - we'll give it to you.

Because we lease vehicles out, we know exactly where most of our vehicles have been and what service has been completed on them. We also know how the vehicles were treated. If you are in the market for a pre-owned vehicle that will last you for years, visit our showroom.

Because most of our vehicles are from rolled off leases from our corporate clients, you have a greater selection. If you need a small delivery van or you need a pickup truck, you're likely to find the perfect truck for your small business or for your job.

We also provide service so once you buy a vehicle from us, you can bring it in for service since our team knows your vehicle the best. Have confidence in your pre-owned vehicle purchase. Pick up a vehicle that you know will not let you down.

Whether you should own or lease a fleet is a decision that should not be made lightly. You'll need to compare the benefits of both methods to learn which choice most benefits your bottom line.

SUV or Sedan? - March 28, 2017

Mike Albert Direct here, giving you the best information on sedans and SUVs. First of all, if you're in the market for a new vehicle, you might be wondering which type of vehicle to buy. Sedans and SUVs have different benefits and we're here to run them down for you so you can make a great decision when you buy.

SUVs

If you're looking to buy an SUV, you might want to consider a few pros and cons.

The pros:

  • You may have optional four-wheel drive.
  • You have more space in the SUV to carry items and people.
  • You can take SUVs on camping expeditions and into rough terrain.

The cons:

  • Gas is expensive with many older SUVs, and if the MPG rating isn't great, you'll be looking at spending a lot of money at the pump.
  • Larger vehicles may need more upkeep.
  • You may have difficulty getting up to speed as quickly as you can in a sedan.

Sedans

If you're considering a sedan, you can think about these pros and cons:

The pros:

  • Sedans typically get more miles to the gallon than SUVs, which means you'll save money on gas.
  • Sedans are quicker in many cases, so you can get up to higher speeds on highways.
  • Sedans are closer to the ground, so they may feel more stable.

The cons:

  • Sedans can't hold as much as an SUV, so if you plan on long trips with multiple people, you could run out of space or feel cramped.
  • Sedans don't normally have four-wheel drive unless you upgrade your package.
  • Sedans may not be able to handle rough terrain or inclement weather conditions as well as SUVs.

When it comes down to your decision, you'll need to know what you plan to do with a sedan or SUV before you buy. Your lifestyle will be a major factor in the need for either one of these vehicles.

Spring Cleaning Your Car - March 16, 2017

Whether you just picked up a new-to-you vehicle from Mike Albert Direct or your car is only a year or two old, you'll want to have some great spring cleaning tips to help keep the vehicle in great condition. If the vehicle is less than three or four months old, you could wait until next spring, but if it's older, it's a good idea to get some spring cleaning done.

Detailing the vehicle keeps the finishes looking new; and that includes the paint and the materials on the inside. During pollen seasons, it's also a good idea to wash your car more frequently; however, be sure to give it a good coat of wax during spring cleaning. And, do spring cleaning before pollen season!

Washing and Waxing

Wash and wax your vehicle to keep the paint shiny and new. About once per year, you might want to polish the paint. When you polish it, you heat up the clear coat and spread it evenly over the paint, thus getting rid of any blemishes. If you use a rubbing compound, take care not to use too much pressure as you'll ruin the clearcoat. Once you've polished the vehicle, you'll want to put a good coat of wax on it.

Interior Cleaning Tips

To get the dust in the air conditioning vents, use a foam brush or paint brush to disturb the dust. While doing that, have the vacuum running at the same time to suck up the disturbed dust. This combination also works on getting dust from behind the knobs and levers in your vehicle.

Replace the cabin air filter in your vehicle. An old filter starts to stink after a while. Spring cleaning is a good time to replace the filter so that your vehicle smells good again.

A Magic Eraser gets rid of any sticky substances from vinyl and leather. Be sure to test it on an inconspicuous spot, first, to make sure it doesn't discolor the material. If you can't seem to get dirt out of the vinyl textures, use a toothbrush to loosen it, and then vacuum it.

Pet hair is the bane of all drivers. Use a lint roller to get pet hair off the surfaces, including the head liner. For particularly stubborn hair in cloth seats, lightly spray the seats with a water bottle, and then use a squeegee to pull the hair into a pile.

Scrub cruddy carpeted floor mats with upholstery cleaner. Test it in an inconspicuous spot to ensure that it doesn't discolor the mats. For really stubborn stains, spray the stain with stain remover, and then throw the mats in the washer.

Service Your Car for that Spring Break Road Trip! - February 28, 2017

Spring Break is coming up fast and it pays to prepare. One of the best ways to prep for your vacation is to get your car checked over prior to leaving town. You can stop by Mike Albert Direct to get your vehicle serviced at our service center for repairs as well as preventative maintenance.

Contact our service department for maintenance or repairs including oil changes, transmission flushes, coolant flushes, tire rotation, engine tune ups, balancing tires, front-end alignments, muffler repair and replacement, brake repair and adjustment, air conditioning repair, state inspections, and wash, wax and interior detail. Get any or all of these done before you hit the road to have a smoother trip.

Remember, each vehicle has a specific time frame for oil changes, tune ups and other preventative maintenance. During the maintenance, we also check and top off fluids, check the brakes, suspension, steering components and tires to ensure that you don't have upcoming repairs. If your car is up for some scheduled maintenance, don't neglect to have it done, especially before embarking on a lengthy road trip.

Check your owner's manual for maintenance time frames. If you no longer have an owner's manual, contact our service department to ask when your next maintenance should be done. Be sure to have your vehicle's year, make, model and mileage ready when you call.

Keeping your vehicle properly serviced and detailed makes it last longer. Detailing is as important as servicing the drivetrain. Keeping crud off the paint by washing and waxing your vehicle regularly keeps the paint in good condition. Also, washing the rims keeps the rims in good condition. If you have chrome rims, you also need to polish the chrome or it will start to flake off or rust through.

Keeping your engine bay clean allows you to find oil and other fluid leaks easier. It also removes a potential fire hazard. Keep your vehicle properly maintained - inside and out - and you will enjoy it for many years.

We staff only qualified technicians and they are ready to answer any questions you might have, plus handle your repair and maintenance needs. When you are ready to schedule preventative maintenance, service or repairs, contact Mike Albert Direct by using our online form, stopping by or calling our service department.

Black History Month in Cincinnati - February 16, 2017

February is Black History Month in the United States and Cincinnati possesses multiple ways to celebrate and places to visit. If you're interested in learning more about African American history culture as it pertains to the city of Cincinnati, plan to check out these places and events this month.

Visit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

A museum located in downtown Cincinnati that opened in 2004, the center documents the history of abolitionist efforts in the United States and showcases artifacts of slavery. The museum's biggest piece is the Slave Pen. Transported from its original Kentucky location and reconstructed piece by piece on the floor of the museum, the Slave Pen was originally built in 1830. The two story tall log structure is the only known surviving rural slave jail, used to house slaves prior to their transport to slave markets to be auctioned.

See the Harriet Beecher Stowe House

The historic residence of famed abolitionist and author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, the house now serves as a museum that tells Stowe's story and the history of the Lane Seminary, abolitionists, the Underground Railroad, and African-American history. Her book helped to inspire many Americans to join the abolitionists and to assist the Underground Railroad.

Walk Away the Holiday Pounds - January 12, 2017

It's fairly common to put on a bit of weight during the holidays. Hey, there's no shame in it - the food can be pretty delicious. Anyway, it's not a big deal to drop those extra unwanted pounds. One of the easiest and most pleasant ways to accomplish this is through good, old-fashioned hiking. Living in Cincinnati, you're not short on trail options. There are many great places for a hike within two hours of the city.

Hocking Hills

About 2 1/2 hours outside of downtown Cincinnati, it's a great place year round for outdoor excursions and makes for a good day trip. Attractions like Old Man's Cave and the Upper & Lower Falls add to the interest of the trail. The trails are long enough that you can easily spend a day on the move, so make sure that you bring a good pack filled with snacks and water and wear sturdy hiking shoes. It's a popular destination, so winter is actually the best time to go since it's the off season.

Yellow Springs

About 1 1/4 hours away from downtown Cincinnati, Yellow Springs makes for an easier day trip than Hocking Hills. The town itself is a rustic place with some good dining and shopping opportunities, including coffee bistros, beer bars, and pizza joints (just don't forget that you're trying to lose those holiday pounds, not gain them back!). The resident park, John Bryant State Park, is where the hiking action is. It offers plenty of trails for all levels of fitness, from level and short to long and steep.

Visit Mike Albert Direct

Enjoy your time outdoors more with an affordable pre-owned ride from Mike Albert Direct. When you get to a good hiking spot, an SUV can really open up more possibilities for enjoying your time outdoors. Come test drive an SUV, or whatever vehicle strikes your fancy, at Mike Albert Direct today.

You'll also find some wildlife viewing areas and short hiking trails. The reserve is located at 2514 Cleveland Road East, Huron, Ohio, 44839.

Why Shop Used - January 3, 2017

When it's time for a new vehicle, you have many things to think about including the type of vehicle you want, the cost, monthly payments, cost of ownership, and whether to buy new or used. On that last point, buying used is often the best choice for multiple reasons.

Cost of Ownership

When you purchase a new vehicle, the insurance is often higher because the cost of the vehicle is higher. If cost of ownership, which includes maintenance, vehicle insurance, the monthly payment, fuel and repairs, is too high on a new vehicle, you can save by purchasing a pre-owned model. Additionally, depending on the cost of the vehicle, you could pay the vehicle off sooner rather than later, thus reducing the cost of ownership in the third or fourth year instead of the fifth or sixth year.

Depreciation and Yearly Cost to Purchase

When you purchase a new vehicle it depreciates significantly in the first few years. When you purchase a pre-owned vehicle, someone has already "eaten" the depreciation. This saves you quite a bit of money when it's time to trade the vehicle in or sell it. Instead purchasing a new vehicle at $50,000, keeping it for 5 years and having it cost you $10,000 per year, you could purchase the same vehicle for $20,000, keep it for 5 years and have it cost you $4,000 per year.

You Can Own a Nicer Car For Less

What's the difference between a 2012 luxury model and a 2017 luxury model? Not a whole lot, truth be told. There is one major difference, however, and that's the price tag. If a luxury car is out of your price range, maybe a used one isn't.

Keep Your Car Running Smoothly in 2017 - December 22, 2017

When you think of car maintenance, you think of things such as changing the tires, checking the fluids and changing the oil, all of which could be done at Mike Albert Direct. However, there are many other things that you should in the new year to keep your car running smoothly.

Leaves and Debris

Leaves and twigs flying around not only clog the gutters on your house, but they also clog the areas where water is supposed to flow out of your vehicle. Make sure the air plenum near the windshield is clear of debris. If it's not, you may notice cold water on your feet. A vehicle with a sun roof also has drains in the event that water gets past the gaskets. If those drains are full of debris, you'll notice that the sun roof looks like it's leaking. If the clogs aren't too bad, they can be blown out with an air hose.

A New Home

During the cold months, animals may make nests under the hood of your vehicle. This could be a problem especially if the animal is the type that likes to chew wires. Check under your hood every now and then to ensure that mice and other chewers aren't trying to use the insulation and wiring in the engine compartment to make a new house.

Winter Tires

You may have summer and winter tires, and if the winter tires are not yet mounted on your vehicle, it's past time to have that done. This year, have the winter tires mounted on a second set of rims - it's easier to change tires at the season changes. If you have all-season tires and are considering two sets of tires, have the sets mounted on separate rims to make life easier.

If you are running all-season tires, you'll want to be sure the tread depth is at least 6/32 of an inch. Tires need to be replaced before the tread depth decreases to 2/32 of an inch; however, when traveling on snow and ice, you'll need more tread than you would in the months without snow.

Why You Should Shop Mike Albert This Holiday Season - December 20, 2016

When you're in the market for a used vehicle this holiday season, you have several choices - and not all of them are great choices.

Deciding Between an SUV and a Van - December 15, 2016

If you're out looking for the next perfect vehicle for your family - and it's not a sedan - you've a choice of a van or an SUV. Both have their benefits and drawbacks, so the choice is up to you. Let Mike Albert Direct help you decide.

Ground Clearance

If you don't plan on taking the family into the woods or an area that requires higher ground clearance, the minivan wins in this race. With a lower ground clearance, it is easier to load kids and groceries into the vehicle. It's also easier for the younger and the elderly to climb in and out of, so the kids' grandmother won't need a step stool or a boost from you, even if she's elderly.

The SUV is a bit higher, so that makes it more difficult to load things and kids; however, if you need that extra ground clearance for camping trips, then the SUV would win this race.

Sliding Doors

Sliding doors. The biggest tell-tale that you are driving a minivan. This is a good thing because they are easier to open when you just have to push a button and they have a wider opening so you can move around while settling kids or things in the back seat.

Seating and Conveniences

A minivan usually comes standard with third row seating, plus the seats fold down, so if you have a big item or tons of things and no kids, you've got plenty of room. The SUV usually has a rear seat - a third row is not a guarantee.

You'll also get tri-zone climate control and rear seat entertainment when you buy a minivan. While some SUVs have these things, you may have to order a higher trim level to get them.

Fuel Economy and Drivetrain

If fuel economy is a big issue, you might tip the scales in favor of the minivan. Those usually get better fuel economy than an SUV. Because a minivan has a car-like chassis and engine, it is also easier to navigate in the city. And of course, if you need all-wheel or four-wheel drive, you're most likely not going to find it on a minivan - you'll have to opt for the SUV.

Top 3 "Drool-Worthy" Turkey Recipes - November 17

If you made Thanksgiving Dinner properly, you'll have plenty of leftovers. Some of the best recipes are made from leftovers. And, you can make so many different things from sandwiches, turkey salad, hot open turkey sandwiches and more. You should have everything you need for these leftovers in your pantry already, but if not, when you stop by Mike Albert Direct to test drive a pre-owed vehicle, stop by the grocery store to pick up what you need.

Hot Open Turkey Sandwiches

In a deep sided fry pan, melt a bit of bacon fat, or if you're health conscious, oil. Cut turkey into bite-sized pieces or shred it. Add it to the pan. Once the turkey is warmed through, turkey gravy and warm it up until it's hot. If the gravy is too thick, thin it out with a bit of water. Butter one or two slices of bread for each person. Pour the turkey and gravy over the buttered bread. Season with salt and pepper.

Turkey Salad

Process turkey in a food processor on low until it's crumbled. Set it aside. Small dice onions and celery. Mix them with the turkey. Season with salt and pepper. Mix in enough mayonnaise to make the turkey, celery and onions stick together. Pile it on your favorite bread. Refrigerate any leftovers.

The Dagwood Thanksgiving Sandwich

Start out with your favorite bread. Add mayonnaise, mustard or both. Start piling on Thanksgiving Day leftovers with turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, green beans, sweet potatoes and stuffing. Add more gravy and turkey on the top. If needed, season between layers with salt and pepper.

Thanksgiving Road Trip Tips - November 15

Hitting the road for Thanksgiving offers a combination of excitement and stress that has become synonomous with holiday travel. But the busy roads shouldn't keep you from getting to your destination. Follow these Thanksgiving road trip tips to make this holiday travel season the easiest and most enjoyable one yet.

Do the Proper Planning

Planning a road trip may not seem as important as planning a flight, but the proper preparations can ensure you have a good time. The day before Thanksgiving has long been known as the busiest travel day of the year, and the following Sunday is almost as busy. Avoid these travel days whenever possible.

Pack a GPS

Most smartphones come equipped with GPS applications, and a number of our vehicles here at Mike Albert Direct also come with GPS capabilities. A good GPS system can save you a lot of hassle and give you a realistic look at your arrival time. A GPS can also help you find an alternative route if your usual route is too highly traveled.

Stop Often

More crowded roads and holiday deadlines can make you feel like you need to arrive at your destination in a hurry, but the best way to enjoy a road trip is to take your time. Make stops for good, healthy foods and get out of the car to stretch your legs or toss a football around. If you see a roadside attraction you're interested in along the way, don't be afraid to stop. Many times, the stops you make along a road trip are what make the journey even more pleasing than the destination.

Have the Right Road Trip Vehicle

The vehicle you use for your travels makes a big difference in how much you enjoy your time inside it. Get rid of your old, uncomfortable family vehicle and swap it for a new to you vehicle from Mike Albert Direct.

We'll help you find the perfect vehicle for your travel needs, whether you're a couple who wants to travel in style or a family in need of in-car entertainment systems. Give us a call or stop in and see us this holiday season.

4 DIY Car Hacks - November 8

After you bring your vehicle home from Mike Albert Direct, add some of these DIY car hacks to make your driving experience easier. Hopefully, you won't need the first hack - the hack for fixing cracks and scratches.

Use Nail Polish to Fix Cracks and Scratches

If you can't get your windshield repaired as soon as you like, slow a crack down by painting it with clear nail polish. And, if you can't get touch-up paint for a scratch, try to find nail polish that is close to your vehicle's color to cover the scratch and to keep it from rusting until you can get it fixed properly.

USB Ports

Most vehicles have just one USB port so if you need to charge two or more phones, you're pretty much out of luck. Pick up a double USB port that fits in your cigarette lighter so that you can plug two devices in at the same time. And, these two ports will be more powerful than the USB ports that came with your vehicle.

Velcro Holders

If you don't want to take a chance on the sticky pad for a phone or navigation holder, pick up some Velcro. Stick the hook side on the dash or other area you'd like to mount your electronics. Then glue the other piece to the back of the electronic device you want to have in your sight. It's easy enough to remove the device when you want and it'll stay in place in curves and even on a hot day when suction cups tend to come loose.

Ceiling Storage

Grab a net used to hold motorcycle helmets on the back seat of a bike - they are about 18 inches across. Hook the net to the grab handles in your with wire ties. This makes a nifty place to keep extra hats, gloves, scarves and other items you don't want laying around on the floor.

Tellico Plains is at 930 feet and the highest point at Santeetlah Overlook is 5,390 feet - just over a mile.

There are no restaurants or gas stations on the Skyway. However, there are plenty of great views including a side trip to Bald River Falls; hiking, fishing and camping in Nantahala National Forest; Santeetlah Overlook; and the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.

The Old Blues Highway

Starting in Memphis, you can take Highway 61 along a legendary route that follows the Mississippi River. Follow the route to Vicksburg to find plenty of music including soul, R&B and gospel.

In Memphis, be sure to visit the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, located at 926 E. McLemore Ave. The museum is named after the famous record label that recorded Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding and the Staple Singers.

Take a tour with Tad Pierson of American Dream Safari (americandreamsafari.com) of Memphis nightclubs to hear live Blues music. Before you leave Memphis, stop at Downtown's Rendezvous at 52 S. Second Street or Tops Bar-B-Q located at 1258 Union Ave. for some of the best barbecue. Head out to Tunica, Clarksdale, Rosedale and Vicksburg for more music and great food.

  8. Bake for 5 more minutes, then spread the caramel corn onto wax paper and let it cool.

Fun Fall Activities - October 20

Fall is a great time to pick up new activities, hobbies, and interests. If you're looking to fill some hours this fall season, try one of these fun-filled and productive activities for yourself.

Learn a New Language

Whether you'll be traveling south of the border or not, learning a new language can be educational, fun and beneficial to your everyday life. Take language classes online or pick up a program like Rosetta Stone to practice your new language skills in the comfort and convenience of your home.

Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking gives you an opportunity to organize your photos, reflect on recent memories and create a tangible record of your travels to show to friends and family. Scrapbooking this fall could kick off with a visit to a pumpkin patch or farm. Take lots of photos and get creative!

Paint By Numbers

We're not all artists, but that doesn't mean you can't paint. Painting by numbers kits are extremely addictive, and thousands of them (of varying difficulties) can be purchased online. Even better, the final result is a gorgeous painting that you can use to decorate your home.

Jewelry Making

Creating your own unique jewelry pieces isn't just a way to pass time - it's also a way to make money while you have fun! Master your jewelry design and creation skills, and you can create a website or Etsy account to sell your goods.

Leaf Pressing

Fall is a great time to try leaf pressing, what with the beautifully colored leaves available wherever you look. Try to get different colors and leaves from different species of tree to fill out your book. You can even combine leaf pressing with scrapbooking.

What is Considered "Excellent Condition" in a Used Car - October 18

Whether you are buying a used vehicle or selling yours, the condition matters as the price of the vehicle is determined in part by the condition of the vehicle. Kelley Blue Book Online has you rate your vehicle to get the selling price or the price you should expect to pay if you are buying used. When you purchase a used vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, we ensure the vehicles are in excellent condition.

It is difficult to get a vehicle rated as Excellent because of the work you must put into the vehicle to reach that rating. It's often not worth it to do that if you are selling your vehicle on the street as you may not get all of the money you put into the vehicle. Of course, this also depends on the year, make and model of the vehicle.

For a vehicle to be rated as Excellent Condition, it needs to look new. The vehicle should be in excellent mechanical condition, which means that there is nothing mechanically wrong with the vehicle, and nothing is expected to wear out or go bad any time soon. If you know your brakes have only 100 miles left before they need to be changed, your vehicle cannot be rated as Excellent.

Furthermore, the vehicle can never have had any body or paint work and it must be completely free of rust. The title history must be clean and the vehicle should be able to pass smog and safety inspections. The engine compartment should be clean and there should be no fluid leaks. Additionally, the vehicle should not show any wear or have any visible defects. And, the vehicle must have complete and verifiable service records.

When you purchase a used vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, in most cases, the vehicles are in Excellent condition. Most of our vehicles have come off lease so we know the complete history of them. We also provide buyers with a CarFax for each vehicle. Stop by our showroom to test drive your next Excellent-rated vehicle.

Get Your Seasonal Service at Mike Albert Direct

When you buy a vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, it's in great running condition and you want to keep it that way. You can conveniently get your vehicle serviced at our service center for repairs as well as preventative maintenance.

Contact our service department for maintenance or repairs including oil changes, transmission flushes, coolant flushes, tire rotation, engine tune ups, balancing tires, front-end alignments, muffler repair and replacement, brake repair and adjustment, air conditioning repair, state inspections, and wash, wax and interior detail.

Each vehicle has a specific time frame for oil changes, tune ups and other preventative maintenance. During the maintenance, we also check and top off fluids, check the brakes, suspension, steering components and tires to ensure that you don't have upcoming repairs.

Fall Comfort Foods

Now is the time to take a road trip to the Smokey Mountains to catch fall in full color. Before you head out, though, you'll need to have your vehicle serviced at Mike Albert Direct if you haven't done it lately. The other thing you may want to do is to prepare some great road trip food to take along with you. Instead of stopping at a restaurant, you can stop along the way for a picnic lunch and enjoy the changing colors.

Cukes and Dip

  • 4 large cucumbers
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup cream cheese
  • 1 jar of dried beef (about 4 ounces), chopped into ½-inch pieces
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Paprika

Peel the cucumbers. You can either peel them completely, peel them so you leave strips of peel on, or leave them unpeeled. Using a teaspoon, scoop the seeds out of the cukes and discard. Wash the cukes.

Mix the rest of the ingredients thoroughly. Scoop the dip into the center of the cucumbers. Cut the cukes into 2-inch to 3-inch slices. Garnish with paprika.

Since this could cause a mess, you may want to leave the cukes whole until you get to your lunch destination, then cut them. If you plan to eat them on the way, then cut them, but prop them up against each other so they don't tip.

Boondock Grinders

  • Grinder (sub) rolls
  • Mayonnaise
  • Spicy brown mustard
  • Salt and pepper
  • Pepper Jack cheese
  • Hard salami
  • Pepperoni
  • Smoked ham
  • Smoked turkey
  • Bacon, cooked
  • Your favorite sandwich toppings

Cut the grinder rolls in half, but do not slice them all the way through. Spread the mayo and mustard on both sides. Cover each side with the pepper jack cheese. If you like tomato, add thin slices on the bottom part of the grinder roll. Layer the meats over the top of the tomatoes, covering both sides of the roll.

Add lettuce, black olives, peppers, cucumbers, onions and other toppings you might like. Sprinkle it all with salt and pepper if desired (you might want to put the ham and bacon under another meat if you're going to use salt).

Enjoy. And stop by Mike Albert Direct on your way out of town to ensure that your vehicle is serviced for your trip.

Things to Consider When Buying Your First Car

When you get ready to choose your next car at Mike Albert Direct, you have several things to think about other than price. Cars cost money to maintain, regardless of whether they are new or used. You also have to buy insurance for the vehicle: the type of vehicle, among other things, determines the amount of insurance you will need to pay.

Maintenance: Most newer vehicles use synthetic oil and, according to manufacturers, do not require an oil change every 3,000 miles or three months. The exact time frame is dependent upon the year, make and model. Other maintenance intervals have also been extended. When you purchase a new car and you are thinking about saving money, choose something with longer maintenance periods.

Insurance: For many people, the cost of insurance doesn't matter as long as it is reasonable. It's just something you have to have. However, if you have a teenage driver or you have had some points on your license, you may want to try to keep your insurance costs down. When you choose a vehicle, keep in mind that certain vehicles are considered high risk. A specific vehicle may be high risk because of the size engine or because it's popular among thieves.

Check with your insurance company for rate increases for certain types of vehicles. If your insurance company tells you that a certain year, make and model is often stolen in your area, you may want to choose another vehicle to help keep insurance costs lower.

Use: This might seem obvious, but for some, it's not - certain vehicles are safer for children, others are more suitable for towing than others and a host of other things you should consider. If you're looking for a truck to use for work, you need to consider bed size. Is a short bed going to be enough? If you are going to tow an RV or a trailer full of tools, you definitely want to check on the towing specifications.

A vehicle could be advertised by the manufacture as a tow vehicle, but if it doesn't have a tow package, you could find yourself in a bind when it won't tow that 8,000-pound boat. Stop by Mike Albert Direct today to check out inventory and test drive your next new vehicle.

Tips to Maximize Fuel Efficiency in Your Car

With the price of gas always fluctuating and ever increasing, you need to maximize fuel efficiency as much as possible. If you don't want to change components on the engine or the rear chunk, you can maximize fuel efficiency on Mike Albert Direct vehicles by changing your driving habits.

Component Changes

Today's vehicles are fuel injected and use a computer, thus there is little that you can do to the engine without having to change out the computer. You can change the air filter to a K&N cold air intake system. With a little bit of mechanical knowledge, you can change this yourself, but if you are uncomfortable with working on your engine, ask the techs at Mike Albert Direct to help you.

You can also change the gear in some vehicles to a higher gear, but keep in mind, if you move from a 3-series gear to a 2-series gear you will lose torque and gain upper end speed. If you tow with your vehicle, this is not a good move. You need torque to pull the weight of the trailer. Only an experienced auto technician should change the gears.

Driving Habits

Many people get into bad driving habits early. Changing your driving habits can significantly increase your fuel mileage.

  • Learn to drive at a consistent speed, preferably about 55 to 60 mph. Going much faster reduces fuel economy. Also, slowing down then speeding up significantly reduces fuel economy.
  • Don't slam on the brakes. Start applying the brakes earlier so that you begin to slow down earlier. If the light changes or the person in front of you picks up speed, you can then pick up speed from a higher mph. When you have to start from a complete stop, you use more fuel. The faster you are going when you need to pick up speed, the less fuel your engine will use.
  • Keep the proper distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. If that person has that bad habit of slowing down and speeding up, you will be forced into doing that, too, thus wasting fuel. If you keep six or seven car lengths between you and the person in front of you, that person can slow down by a couple miles per hour and you won't have to if he or she picks up speed within a few seconds.

In addition to driving habits and mechanical changes, keep your vehicle's maintenance up to date. Clean filters also help fuel economy. Stop by Mike Albert Direct to have your vehicle serviced or if you would like help in changing filters.

Top 5 Questions to Ask Before Buying a New Car

Before you head out to buy a car, you need to determine whether you want new or used, and if you decide you want to save money and buy used, where you should buy it. You should always visit a pre-owned car dealership like Mike Albert Direct so that you know you are getting something that will run for more than two days.

How Much Can You Spend?

Determine what your upper limit is and stick to it. Make sure it's something you can afford - you don't want to set yourself a limit then get excited about a certain model only to find out you can't afford it. Determining your upper limit will also help you determine whether you will buy new or used.

What Kind of Vehicle Do You Want?

This plays in with the previous question. If you want to upgrade to something on the lower end of luxury or if you want to go luxury, your only option may be used. You can find some great deals on pre-owned luxury vehicles at places such as Mike Albert Direct. Many of the vehicles are only a few years old, so you will still have lots of the newer bells and whistles.

Consider the Cost to Own Your New Vehicle.

You might be able to afford the payment on an SUV or a luxury sedan, but can you afford the service, maintenance, repairs and gas? The cost of gas could be a deal-breaker. If you want something that has a 25-gallon tank, runs on premium and gets 17 mpg in the city, you have to be able to afford that - or your vehicle will just sit in the driveway waiting for you.

Do You Need Utility, Luxury or Reliability?

While most vehicles, even pre-owned are reliable, you still have to make a choice between utility, luxury or money. Usually, sedans and coupes get better gas mileage than utility vehicles. While you might want that SUV, you may have to settle with a reliable sedan to get yourself back and forth to work. Determining what you want helps you determine whether the vehicle falls into your price range. It definitely determines whether you are going to buy pre-owned or new.

Where Should You Buy?

When you buy new, you have no choice but to go to the dealership. However, when you buy a pre-owned vehicle, you have a choice of buying from side-of-the-road lots, private individuals or a dealership like Mike Albert Direct. Choosing a dealership will ensure that you get a reliable vehicle - and gives you more choices for vehicles.

Keeping Your Vehicle in Good Shape

When you buy a new-to-you vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, you still have to take care of it like it just came off the assembly line. And, keep in mind, there are no short cuts. Using stuff offered by different manufacturers such as fluid conditioners and "magic dust" doesn't replace good old-fashioned maintenance and elbow grease.

Manufacturers recommend maintenance intervals for a reason. They know how long a part will last and how long it takes to get oil dirty. Also, replacing wear and tear items before they wear too far helps to keep your vehicle in good shape. If you let the brakes squeal too long, you could damage the rotors to the point where they have to be replaced instead of turned. If you accumulate more mileage than the recommended mileage on a timing belt, you could grenade your engine.

Keeping the maintenance up to date also means that you are less likely to be stranded out in the middle of nowhere or on the highway where it's difficult for a tow truck to easily get access to you.

Bring your vehicle in for its recommended maintenance to keep it reliable. This includes regular fluid checks including the brake fluid, power steering fluid, clutch fluid (if applicable), transmission fluid (if applicable), coolant and oil. For the exterior maintenance, you should have it professionally detailed one per year. You should also wash and clean the exterior of the vehicle to keep the paint looking new. Bug juice and bird poop will eat right through paint if left on the vehicle for an extended period of time.

Other tips include:

  • Change the oil and oil filter at the recommended times.
  • Change the radiator coolant every three to four years.
  • Change the transmission fluid (if applicable) every three to four years. If you can't check it, the system is closed. Bring your vehicle by our dealership to have the transmission flushed.
  • Be sure to clean the underside of the vehicle while you are washing and waxing.
  • If your vehicle still uses Zerk fittings, be sure to lubricate the vehicle. You will usually find them near a piece of the suspension or in the rear.
  • Keep the vehicle in the shade if at all possible. If not, use a sunscreen to keep the sun from cracking the dash.

Stop by Mike Albert Direct today to get your next new vehicle or to have your current vehicle serviced.

Ways to Make Your Car Back to School Ready

Whether you drive a pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct or a brand new vehicle from one of the other dealerships in Superior Auto Group, you'll want it to look nice when your children's friends see it. After all, you don't want to embarrass your kids, especially those teens not old enough to drive yet.

Detail the Inside and Outside

Detail the inside and outside of our vehicle. Not only will it look nice for your kids, but you are preserving the materials by taking care of them. A fresh coat of wax on the exterior - after a good wash - helps to protect the paint. Cleaning the interior keeps too much dirt from getting ground into the carpets and seats. Too much dirt eventually stains the upholstery.

Check Your Vehicle for Potential Issues

Even if it's not time to service your vehicle, you should have it checked. An experienced tech will be able to find potential problems such as dry rotted drive belts, worn hoses, worn brakes, leaking calipers and wheel cylinders, worn tires, worn suspension parts and more. Make sure your vehicle is safe for the upcoming year, especially if you are driving your children to school every day.

Car Seats

If your children are going to school for their first year, make sure car seats or booster seats are appropriate and don't need to be upgraded. Children must be a certain height and age to graduate from a car seat to a booster and from a booster seat to sitting in the seat without aids.

Seat Belts

Make sure your seat belts are working properly and are not worn in any spot, especially if your child graduated from a car seat to a booster seat or from the booster to the regular seat. It is possible that the seat belts rubbed against the car seat or booster seat and wore part of the belt.

Fleet Rentals at Mike Albert Direct

Whether you are a small business or a large business, we have fleet rentals that will meet your needs. Some businesses may need luxury vehicles as they meet clients at job sites or take clients to lunch or dinner. Some may need a fleet of vans or trucks for delivery. No matter what type of business you have and what you need fleet vehicles for, stop by Mike Albert Direct to set up a fleet rental account.

Types of Businesses

Real estate offices often provide vehicles for their agents. While many agents meet clients at a home for sale, some may choose to meet at the office and drive out to the property together. When your agents meet clients at the property, you'll want a fleet of vehicles that shows you are a successful agent, especially if the property owner is retaining you to sell his or her home.

Construction companies may also need a fleet of vehicles to use at the job site or to carry workers to and from a job site. Whether you need something as large as a box truck or something smaller, such as a full-size van, we have what you need to build your fleet.

Government agencies and utility companies often use fleet vehicles as employees are often required to work off site. Meter readers, tax collectors, police, accident inspectors and other governmental or utility employees all benefit from fleet vehicle rental.

Those in sales also benefit from fleet vehicle rentals. Instead of having each person drive his or her own vehicle, you can have a vehicle that is easily identifiable by your customers. Whether you have a modest logo or would like to have the vehicle screened, you will have a fleet that not only shows a customer who you are, but that advertises your business.

Programs and Services

Some of our programs and services include finance options, vehicle acquisition, truck and vehicle uplifting, maintenance management, remarketing, telematics, license and title, risk/accident management, direct driver assistance, customer online access, open or closed end leasing programs, purchase leaseback programs, outsourcing and fuel programs.

Stop by Mike Albert Direct today to discuss your fleet requirements including the number of vehicles you require, special requests, the type of vehicle you need and pricing for your fleet. When we set you up, we will help you build a fleet that operates at peak profitability and productivity.

Common Used Car Issues: How the Service Team at Mike Albert can Help

Regardless of where you purchase a used car it may have some issues, though if you purchase it from a used car dealership such as Mike Albert Direct, you will have fewer problems to deal with.

Before any vehicle goes onto the sales lot, the experienced technicians at the dealership check and repair every vehicle as needed. We really go above and beyond every day to ensure that the cars on our lot are ready to take home.

Mileage and Time

All vehicles have issues after time and mileage. You can expect most parts on a vehicle to last at least 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Certain wear and tear items are going to have to be replaced more frequently. Brakes, for example, may need to be replaced sooner rather than later if the previous driver was hard on them.

Timing belts should be replaced between 60,000 and 100,000 miles depending on the year, make, and model of a vehicle. If you purchase a used vehicle with 40,000 miles on it, and that vehicle's manufacturer recommends replacing the timing belt at 60,000 miles, you can expect to come out of pocket for that repair rather quickly. If you put an average of 15,000 miles on your vehicle each year, you will have to do the timing belt within 13 to 14 months after you purchase the vehicle.

Normal Lifetime of Parts

Assuming that the vehicle was well cared for prior to your purchase, you can expect to replace the water pump, alternator, and battery within the first 100,000 miles if it hasn't already been replaced. Filters should be replaced as recommended by the manufacturer - some recommend every 30,000 miles for air filters and fuel filters, while others may recommend a shorter or longer time.

Fluids

Keeping up with fluid changes is important in the life of the vehicle. Some manufacturers still recommend that you change the oil every 3,000 miles or three months while others use extended life oil and recommend up to 7,000 miles or 6 months.

Antifreeze should also be changed as recommended. If you do not know whether the previous owner used extended life antifreeze, you should change it before the winter if you don't know whether it has been recently changed.

Transmission fluid should also be changed as recommended by the manufacturer - some recommend 60,000 miles while others recommend 100,000 miles.

When you purchase a vehicle at Mike Albert Direct, ask the salesperson or service tech if he or she knows the history of the vehicle's repair and what they did to prep the vehicle for sale so that you know when you should change fluids or expect to replace other parts. Remember, we're here to help you get the best used car in town, and to keep it that way.

Why a Used Car is Better than New

It's no secret that more and more people are starting to buy used cars instead of new ones. But why? According to Kelley Blue book, in as little as three years, a new car will depreciate in value by as much as 73 percent! Even at it's very best, it will retain a meager 62 percent of it's value after this time. That alone is a huge advantage to buying a used car.

Purchasing a used car or truck saves you money. This is because a new car experiences its greatest total loss within the first 12 to 18 months. Rather than just throwing money down the drain, people are buying used vehicles, which usually have a lower purchase price and lower monthly payments. Most times factory warranties are still available.

The savings add up when car insurance is involved. When buying a new car, insurance can get expensive. Because a used car has less worth than a new one, the cost of insurance will be less. Even more money can be saved when certain elements of car insurance can be dropped when purchasing a used car from your Cincinnati car dealership.

Some people argue that buying a used car is a gamble. However, according to Consumer Reports, used cars aren't all that risky; over the past decade, the big auto manufacturers, like Honda, Hyundai, Kia, etc., have made significant improvements to their products. People are reporting fewer mechanical problems with pre-owned vehicles. Of course taking proper care of your vehicle is the single greatest contributing factor to its longevity, but taking proper care of a vehicle has a somewhat different definition than it did only a few years ago. Today's vehicles demand less time and money to still work great. Why pay extra for new when used is essentially just as good?

A used luxury car is still a luxury car. When a three year old luxury vehicle shows up in your driveway, the neighbors won't know you didn't buy a new car. The car looks pretty much like a new one. These days, you can buy a car that is 4 years old, drive it for the next 10 years and trade it in only because you want something different and not because it is falling apart. Plus, carmakers are no longer redesigning their models yearly. Purchasing a used car doesn't carry the same stigma as it once did.

You also get more bang for your dollar when buying a used car. You can afford to buy a better used car with more options than you would be able to buy if you bought a new car. For example, say you have a $20,000 budget for a car. You can buy a somewhat decent new car with few choices. But if you are willing to buy a 2 or 3 year old used vehicle, you can get a model with all the bells and whistles you want.

If you're interested in reaping the benefits of purchasing a used car, come see us at Mike Albert Direct where you have complete confidence in your vehicle purchase. Our inventory is sure to have a vehicle that will suit your needs.

Best Car Accessories for Back to School

After you pick up a certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, be sure to add the best car accessories for back to school since your kids. Accessories may be different based on your circumstances. You may have a high school student who drives, smaller children or you may be a college student out on your own.

Protect the Carpet

Add floor mats to all seating positions. While you might not think you need them now, you and your carpets will be grateful when the rain, mud, snow and ice appear. Floor mats will save the carpets from ground in grime; and they are easier to clean since you can remove them to hose them down and vacuum them.

Car Seats

If you have younger children who should still be in car seats, be sure you have the appropriate seat for your child's age and height. Once your child reaches a certain age and height, he or she can use a booster seat. Many car seats convert from rear facing to forward facing and then to a booster seat. If you have trouble installing the seat, check with the police department as they often have people who will help you install the seats.

Vacuum

Get a vacuum that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Vacuuming small messes is much easier than spending an hour or more vacuuming the whole car. Plus, you'll get the mess up soon after your kids drop crumbs and will prevent bugs getting in the car and will prevent the mess from being ground into the carpet.

Navigation and Backup Camera

If your vehicle didn't come with navigation and a backup camera, you can buy inexpensive aftermarket "plug ins" for your vehicle. The navigation will help you on road trips and the backup camera is great for getting in and out of tight spots, checking to see if something is behind you or even hooking up a trailer.

Reasons to Lease

Road Trip Games

You know that as soon as you get into the car for a road trip and you pass by the last familiar landmark - at least the last familiar thing to your kids, you're going to start hearing, "Are we there yet?" You also know that you'll hear it every 3 seconds. Instead of listening to that and the bickering that will soon start because they are bored, be ready with some games. It doesn't matter which vehicle you are driving, whether it's your pickup or your sedan from Mike Albert Direct - the kids are going to get bored, even in something equipped with DVD players. Have some "busy time" games ready for them.

Name that Tune

You can play this two ways. You can scan radio stations - whoever yells the name of the song first gets a point. If you have a musical family, one person starts with a line from a song. The first person to guess gets to pick the next song. You can make it difficult by picking themes such as music from the 1980s, television theme songs, songs by a particular artist or even song titles that start with a certain letter.

The Picnic Game

One person starts with the letter A. The first person might say, "I brought apples to the picnic." The second person has to "bring" something that starts with the letter B. He or she would say, "I brought apples and bananas to the picnic." Each person after that repeats what was already said, plus adds something that starts with the next letter. Try to get through the alphabet - and have fun trying to figure out what you might bring that starts with uncommon letters such as X and Z.

Build a Story

One person starts with one sentence. The next person adds a sentence to the first sentence. If someone can write and ride - or type and ride - without getting carsick, you might have someone keep track of the story. When you're a few minutes from your destination, have someone read the entire story. If that's not an option, just keep making things up and see how silly the story gets.

As always, before you head out on a long road trip, you should have your vehicle checked to ensure the fluids are topped off and all systems are working properly. Stop by Mike Albert Direct for a service/maintenance check before you head out.

Things to Keep in the Car for the Summer

After you pick up a certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, pack it up with everything you might need in an emergency during the summer; and with items that you might need because you decide to stop somewhere at the last minute to enjoy hiking or even swimming.

Emergency Items

Be sure you have your summer emergency kit packed in the vehicle. If you don't have a good first aid kit already, be sure to pick on up that is extensive. The kit should have several sizes of bandages, gauze, an Ace bandage, medical tape, gauze pads, tweezers, needle and thread, super glue, antibacterial ointment, Calamine lotion, alcohol swabs, hydrogen peroxide and eye wash at a minimum.

You should also have reflective triangles, a blanket, flashlight, extra batteries and some minor tools including adjustable pliers, flat head screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver. And, in the event that you happen to break down out in the boonies somewhere, you should have water and high-energy snacks such as granola or peanuts in the vehicle.

Fun Stuff

For those that love doing things at the last minute, be sure to keep an extra change of clothing, towels, your fishing gear, sunscreen and extra batteries for your camera in the vehicle. If you like to hike, keep a pair of hiking boots or shoes in the trunk, too. You never know when you'll decide to stop and take a hike during a trip or after a day of boring meetings at work.

Country Trips

If you plan on taking a long trip out in the country or across the country, you might want to have a small tent, extra blankets, waterproof matches and extra water with you. If you happen to get stranded or lost, you'll be able to camp out for the night and be rather comfortable. Or maybe, you'll visit a park and decide at the last minute to stay overnight - you'll have your tent and the basics to get you through the night.

Taking Care of Your Car in the Summer Heat

Summer heat can be as bad for your vehicle as the cold winters. Just like in the winter, you need to do certain things in the summer to protect your vehicle from the summer heat. For service-related things such as oil changes, air conditioning checks and repairs and coolant checks, call Mike Albert Direct for a service appointment.

Interior

The sun's ultraviolet rays will do a number on the interior, especially the dash, which will eventually crack. The sun will also fade the upholstery and carpeting, so the more sun you can block, the longer your interior will look good. You can protect your vehicle's interior by tinting the windows and by using a sun shield in the windshield.

Additionally, keeping your windows cracked a tad will allow a lot of hot air out of the vehicle so that it won't be as hot when you get in it.

Exterior

Not only does the sun affect the interior, it will affect the paint and other materials on the exterior of the vehicle. If you wash and wax your vehicle, you will keep the paint in good condition for a longer period of time. Using other products made for bumpers and chrome where appropriate also helps keep the exterior looking new.

Mechanical

Always check your vehicle's fluids, but during the summer, be sure to check the coolant and the oil often. You should also check the belts and hoses as the summer heat is not easy on rubber materials. If it is super hot and humid, your air conditioning may not cool as efficiently. However, if you feel that the air conditioning is not working at all, be sure to call us to set up a service appointment.

Call or Visit Mike Albert Direct

Call Mike Albert Direct to make a service appointment or stop by to schedule a service appointment to repair sun damage or for any other service matter you may have.

Car Care Tips

Keeping your car in top-notch condition is something we all strive to do. We are not all mechanics, but there are still some tips and tricks you can do yourself to help keep your ride ready for the cooler months ahead.

Change your wiper blades. This is a simple and affordable way to prepare for the rainy autumn months that are ahead and they are easy to install. Windshield wiper solvents and weather break them down. Having a fresh set of wiper blades keeps them ready for heavy rain or snow. Make sure you check your car's manual for the appropriate size.

Check the spare tire. You never know when you might be caught with a flat. No one wants to be out in the heat longer than they have to be, especially in an emergency situation. Make sure the tire is at proper pressure and that you can get to it without hassle. If you own a truck, the spare might be under the vehicle attached by a cable. Check this cable to see that it works properly.

Check and top off all of your fluids. This should be done on a regular basis anyway. But if you only check them occasionally, be sure all of your fluids are where they should be. Check the antifreeze, brake fluid, power steering, oil and windshield wiper fluids.

Air filters need replacing at least twice a year as a general rule of thumb. Having a dirty air filter not only effects the quality of air you breathe in, it can cause your fuel economy and performance to decrease. It will also deteriorate your emissions until the filter is replaced.

Be sure all of your lights and battery terminals are in working order. If you notice any loose cables or corrosion, gently brush the wires with the appropriate brush and reconnect the wires. If you notice any lights are burned out or not working, replace the bulbs. Most will be fairly inexpensive with the exception of the headlight bulbs.

All of these things can be done with minimal knowledge and simple tools. If you are ever in doubt, bring your car in to the helpful staff at Mike Albert Direct. We will get you ready and back on the road in no time.

Benefits of Buying an Off-Lease Vehicle

When you visit Mike Albert Direct to purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle you are buying an off-lease vehicle, which has many benefits including the available history of the vehicle. You'll also be able to find a vehicle that is only a year or two old, if you prefer something newer. And for those who prefer an older model because of cost, you'll be able to find several vehicles that are 5 or more years old.

Knowing the History

When you purchase a used vehicle from an individual and even from some dealerships, you have no idea what the history of that vehicle is unless the previous owner took it to the dealership for all maintenance. When you purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle from our showroom floor, you are purchasing a vehicle that we leased out, so we know the history of the vehicle.

CarFax

When we create a lease package, whether it's an executive lease or a fleet of trucks or vans, we also keep up with maintenance on the vehicle; and we also report the maintenance to CarFax. You'll know if any of our vehicles have been in an accident and whether all maintenance has been completed by the previous owner.

Getting the Best Deal

Knowing the history of the vehicle you are purchasing already makes buying from Mike Albert Direct a better deal than other dealerships and individuals; and you can also find the year, make and model you are looking for. Whether you need a van or truck for work, a luxury vehicle with lower miles or you just want a comfortable family sedan that has been taken care of, we'll be able to provide you with the vehicle you need. And, we have reasonable prices.

Preventing Vehicle Theft

At Mike Albert Direct, we want to make sure that you understand ways to prevent vehicle theft. This serious crime can leave you feeling sore, especially if your car is your only method of transportation. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to prevent theft, and they won't cost you much, if anything, at all.

Lock Your Doors

It might seem like a simple step to take, but locking your doors can make a world of difference. Thieves that hotwire cars don't want to draw attention to themselves. Stealing a car that isn't locked is a lot easier than having to break windows or jimmy locks. Leaving your car unlocked is like leaving an open invitation for others to take your vehicle.

Use a Steering Lock

There are many devices available that lock in place over your car's wheel. When in place, the device can't be removed without a key or lock combination, and that means a thief wouldn't be able to drive the car. This simple lock makes it hard, although not impossible, for a thief to steal your car. These devices can cost anywhere from $10 to $50, and you can pick one up in most car retail stores.

Don't Leave Your Keys in the Car

Amazingly, many people leave a spare key (or their actual set) in the car, either under a mat or in the ignition. Thieves only need to open the door to simply drive away. Taking your keys out is an important step to preventing this simple method of theft.

Use an Alarm System

It may go without saying, but if you use an alarm system, it will alert those around you, police, or yourself when something breaks or bumps your car. That means that the thief can be spooked and scared away, but even better, you'll be able to know that someone was trying to get into your car.

Use a Garage

Locking a garage around a vehicle is an extra step of protection that makes it hard for thieves to get to your car. Another thing that comes to mind is "out of sight, out of mind," which is very true. If a thief doesn't see your car, why would he want to steal it?

There are basic items you should keep in your kit throughout the year. The list may seem lengthy but the kit's purpose is to help you get through as many emergency situations as possible. Add to the list as necessary:

Get Your Old Car Looking Showroom New Again

You go outside and look at your old car. The upholstery on the seats are ripped. There is dirt caked on the wheels and the paint hasn't seen a good buffing in years. While the car still runs like a dream, you would love to do something else to the old vehicle to make it look like new again.

You could take your car to the Mike Albert Direct to get a new to you vehicle. But before you take that route, try out these tips first to give your old car a new look.

Update the Upholstery

Even minor rips in car seats can make your vehicle look outdated even if it is brand new. You may be able to fix the tear yourself by purchasing a DIY kit. Most kits are designed for leather and vinyl seats as it only repairs minor tears or punctures to the surface.

If you have cloth seats, you can try to repair them with a needle and thread, although you will have to try hard to match the color of the thread to the seat color. If you simply can't repair the seats with a kit, you can purchase custom seat covers in a variety of fabrics.

Buff and Polish The Paint

A simple buff and polish can give new life to your car's old appearance. Before you polish the exterior, you will want to buff off any oxidation on the paint. Then apply the polish as you are placing back the protective oils that used to be in the car paint but was stripped away due to weather and time. After you add the polish, your car should look great. Keep up with a routine of polishing and waxing to maintain this updated appearance.

Car Detailing

To restore as many things as you can at one time and in a professional manner, you can invest in car detailing. Car detailing is what many car dealerships will do to the vehicles they are going to sale. Car detailing involves thoroughly cleaning the car inside and out. In addition, minor cosmetic repairs are made to damaged areas so the car looks good enough to be sold on the lot.

SUVs or Cars: Pros and Cons

Mike Albert Direct here, giving you the best information on cars and SUVs. First of all, if you're in the market for a new vehicle, you might be wondering which type of vehicle to buy. Cars and SUVs have different benefits, and we're here to run them down for you, so you can make a great decision when you buy.

SUVs

If you're looking to buy an SUV, you might want to consider a few pros and cons.

The pros:

  • You may have optional four-wheel drive
  • You have more space in the SUV to carry items and people
  • You can take SUVs on camping expeditions and into rough terrain

The cons:

  • Gas is expensive with many older SUVs, and if the MPG rating isn't great, you'll be looking at spending a lot of money at the pump
  • Larger vehicles may need more upkeep
  • You may have difficulty getting up to speed as quickly as you can in a car

Cars

If you're considering a car, you can think about these pros and cons:

The pros:

  • Cars typically get more miles to the gallon than SUVs, which means you'll save money on gas
  • Cars are quicker in many cases, so you can get up to higher speeds on highways
  • Cars are closer to the ground, so they may feel more stable

The cons:

  • Cars can't hold as much as an SUV, so if you plan on long trips with multiple people, you could run out of space or feel cramped
  • Cars don't normally have four-wheel drive unless you upgrade your package
  • Cars may not be able to handle rough terrain or inclement weather conditions as well as SUVs

When it comes down to your decision, you'll need to know what you plan to do with a car or SUV before you buy. Your lifestyle will be a major factor in the need for either one of these vehicles.

Take I-71 to 42, 68 or 72 if you want to take a two-lane highway instead of the freeway. For more information visit youngsdairy.com and yellowsprings.com/parks.asp.

Best Summer Car Hacks

If the vehicle you bought from Mike Albert Direct a couple years ago needs some freshening up, use some hacks to freshen it up at home. Many hacks use simple ingredients that you have in your home. Some are temporary and some last a long time.

Baking Soda

Sprinkle baking soda on the carpets and then brush it in with a bristle brush. Let it set for about 10 minutes and then vacuum it up. It will freshen the carpets and absorb any moisture that might be in the carpet. This will work on cloth seats, too.

You can also clean some wheels with baking soda. If you have wheels that are easily scratched such as chrome, be sure to test it on a small spot before you put it on the entire wheel. Mix the baking soda with dish washing soap in a bucket of water. Scrub your wheels with a good brush and the mixture and the grime will come loose.

Vinegar

Clean the windshield with vinegar and newspaper. You an also use vinegar to remove stains such as grease and ink. Dab a bit of vinegar on the stain, then blot it gently. Wipe it away with a damp cloth. Eventually, the smell of vinegar will fade as will the stain.

If your dog had an accident on the carpet in the vehicle, blot up any excess liquid. Pour vinegar on the spot and let it set for a couple minutes. Vacuum the mess up with a wet-dry shop vac or a carpet shampooer.

Toothpaste

This trick doesn't work with a toothpaste with gel in it - be sure to use something without any gel. This tip is only temporary, but it can clear headlight in a jiffy. Just scrub some toothpaste on the headlight lens and rinse it with water. Wipe it clean with a clean soft rag. If you add UV block to the newly cleaned headlights, the headlights will stay clean longer.

Toothpaste is also great for cleaning the white lettering on your tires. Rinse the toothpaste off when you're done, and then scrub the letters with bleach to really make the letters stand out.

When You Lease a Fleet, You Save Your Company Money

If you have a business and need vehicles, either executive vehicles or work vehicles, stop by Mike Albert to discuss your needs and to consider leasing a fleet. Whether you should own or lease a fleet is a decision that should not be made lightly. You'll need to compare the benefits of both methods to learn which choice most benefits your bottom line.

Freed Up Cash

When you lease a fleet, you have cash that now becomes accessible for other use. You'll need less money for an upfront investments when you lease; and a good lease agreement could reduce the monthly cost of the fleet. The biggest benefit is that you keep your credit lines available for reinvestment into the business.

Administration Costs

When you own a fleet, you need to deal with administrative costs including taxes and license renewals. When you lease a fleet, the provider usually handles many of the fleet management tasks, which means you save money and time on paperwork and record keeping.

Technology

The more technology you can use to manage your fleet, the better run your fleet will be. However, it takes time and money to set up fleet management. Instead, lease your fleet from Mike Albert and we'll manage your fleet for you. We use fleet management solutions to manage your fleet's mileage, maintenance and more, thus reducing the cost of running the fleet for you.

Company Image

When you lease a fleet from Mike Albert, we'll up-fit the vehicles, including adding your brand to them. Show off a successful business with new trucks with your business. Updating the fleet every couple years shows potential customers that you take care of your vehicles and that you have the newest technology.

Benefits of Knowing the History of Your Car

When you buy a used car, you are really taking a chance unless you know the history of that vehicle. And often, people don't give you a complete history or none at all, so you're on your own to figure out if the vehicle is a good deal or not. When you purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, you know the complete history of that vehicle.

Our Certified Vehicles

The certified pre-owned vehicles at Mike Albert Direct are vehicles that came off lease from our executive and fleet customers. Since we leased these vehicles when they were new, we know all of the repairs done on those vehicles. We also know if the vehicle has been maintained properly. It's like someone handing over a vehicle to you with every single receipt for all that person has done to keep that vehicle in good shape. We also provide you with a CarFax for any vehicle we sell.

Benefits of Knowing the History

When you know the history of a vehicle, you can determine whether the seller is asking too much for the vehicle; and you also know whether the vehicle is going to last long enough for you to get your money's worth out of it.

Additionally, you know what maintenance needs to be done. For example, if you buy a vehicle with 50,000 miles on it and the maintenance schedule calls for a timing belt change at 60,000 miles, you'll know that you will have to change the timing belt in 10,000 miles. That could be a year's worth of driving for you; or it could be a couple month's worth of driving, depending on your driving habits.

You can also possibly avoid getting stranded. If something such as a battery hasn't been changed and it's getting close to the expiration time for that battery, you can replace it before it leaves you stranded. The same goes for other items which are expected to wear out at a certain mileage or time such as the water pump, belts and brakes.

Tips for Driving in the Rain

Driving in the rain can be dangerous if you're not careful or if you are but fellow drivers are not. If you just picked up a certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, you definitely don't want to get into a crash, so that means not only do you need to watch your own driving during the rain, but you need to watch others. Watching others is always a good idea, but even more important in a rain storm.

Slow Down

The most important tip for driving in the rain is to slow down. So many people don't slow down and that causes hydroplaning, which will cause accidents. Remember that the speed limit is for ultimate conditions. It is expected that all drivers will slow speeds down when the weather is bad, including rain, fog, snow, sleet and ice.

Acceleration

When the roads are wet, don't accelerate hard. You could spin the tires, and if you get enough tire spin, you could lose control, especially if you drive an older vehicle that doesn't have traction control. You'll also save money on fuel economy if you accelerate only as hard as you need to. Heavy acceleration just to slow down for a vehicle in front of you just decreases gas mileage and is dangerous in most conditions, but especially when the roads are slippery.

Braking

Braking ahead of time and not leaning on the brakes will keep you from going into a slide on wet roads. This also increases fuel economy, so it's a good habit to get into even when the roads are dry.

Wipers

Some vehicles have speed-sensitive wipers and rain-sensing wipers. They help you manage your wipers when the volume of rain changes. If your vehicle does not have these features, be sure to change the wiper speed so that it's fast enough to keep the windshield clear while you are driving. If you happen to get in one of those monsoon rains where you can't see no matter how fast the wipers are going, it's best to pull off the road for the few minutes these heavy rains last.

And, on the subject of wipers, check them at least every three to four months to make sure they are not cracking and dry rotting. Wipers that don't clean the windshield will not help you if you get caught in the rain.

Questions to Ask Yourself When Looking for Fleet Solutions

Whether you have a fleet that you need help with or you are starting a brand new fleet, you should be asking yourself several questions. These questions will help you get the basic needs in your mind. Our fleet managers at Mike Albert Fleet Solutions can then help you get the right size and type of fleet for your needs.

Size

If you currently have a fleet, you should be asking yourself if it's the right size. If the fleet is too small, you're not doing your business any good and if it's too big, you're wasting money. If you are building a new fleet for the first time, you'll need to take into account how many people you need vehicles for and for what reason. If you have workers that need trucks, are two of them working the same sites together? Does each person need his or her own truck?

Industry Changes

Changes in your particular industry happen all the time. When you are designing your fleet, keep this in mind so that you have the right number of vehicles and are spending the right amount of money in the event of changes in the industry. For example, if you are a mobile mechanic, what months does business drop off and when does it pick up again? Do you need a truck for every one of your technicians or should you pair a couple of them together in one truck and give them larger jobs that take more than one person so you don't have that extra truck during the slow times?

Costs

Make sure you are getting your vehicles at the best price. Be sure to shop around, making sure Mike Albert is one of the fleet solution providers you contact. Make sure you can get the vehicles that you need. There is no need to settle when Mike Albert Direct can find you exactly what you need, including upfitting and branding.

Revamp Your Car's Interior!

You can easily revamp your car's interior yourself, or you can have our service technicians at Mike Albert Direct help you with this project. You can spend less than $100 or as much as you want, depending on how you approach the project.

Seats

For an easy do-it-yourself project, add seat covers to the seats. Be sure you order covers made specifically for your vehicle. You can try the one-size fits all seat covers, but they don't always fit properly. Although, if you are handy with a needle and thread, you could make them fit properly.

If the seat cushions are worn out, you could also replace the seats. Find seats at a used parts yard or you could order seats from an aftermarket dealer or even the dealership. In some models, the seats are easy enough to replace, but others are more difficult. If you do attempt to remove the old seats and install new seats yourself, be careful of any computers that might be stored under the seats.

Carpeting

If the carpet still looks good, you can replace the floor mats to give the vehicle a fresher look. However, if the carpeting is worn or torn, you can replace the carpet. Order the carpet from the dealership or from an aftermarket auto parts store. Like the seats, replacing the carpet isn't all that difficult for most models if you are handy with some hand tools, but if you need help, give our service department a call.

Headliner

When the headliner gets torn or if it's just grungy, you can replace that, too. In most cases, you won't be able to do this yourself, as headliners are difficult and usually take two people. Give our body shop a call if you need to have the headliner changed out in your vehicle.

Accessories

Add a steering wheel cover, a shift knob cover and clean up the consoles to help revamp the interior of your vehicle. Clean the dash pad, door panels, and other surfaces using the appropriate cleaners.

How to Fix Scratches

No matter how hard you try to not scratch your vehicle, it somehow manages to get a scratch. Whether it's from a branch you scraped up against or because someone was careless in the parking lot, those scratches will drive you crazy. You can repair some scratches yourself, but you may need to visit Mike Albert Direct to repair some of the deeper scratches.

Light Scratches

If the scratch is light, it most likely just went through the clear coat. Put a little rubbing compound on a clean, dry rag and rub the scratch so that it's less visible. Be careful with this: If you rub too hard, you'll rub right down to the paint. You just want to smooth the edges of the scratch in the clear coat so it's not visible.

Once you do this, the protective wax is missing and the clear coat is going to be thinner. Wash and wax the vehicle, making sure you want the area you just buffed out carefully.

Deeper Scratches

If a scratch went through the clear coat and into the paint, you'll need to get the paint code from the information plaque inside the door. Have an automotive paint shop or dealership order a bottle of touch up paint.

Clean the area thoroughly. Apply the touch up paint and let it dry completely. Once the paint is dry, buff it gently so that there are no rough edges. The paint won't have clear coat on it to protect it, so be sure to wax it thoroughly. You could always over the buffed paint with nail polish or purchase a small bottle of clear from the dealer or paint store; however, this is not always fool proof.

Super Deep Scratches

If the scratch is down to the metal, you can repair it with touch up paint, but you will be able to see the repair. If it's really noticeable and is going to drive you crazy, you may have to have the panel repainted.

Ways to Keep Pollen Off of Your Car

Pollen is, at the very least, one of the biggest pains in the spring and often throughout the summer. You can't keep pollen from getting on your vehicle as long as it's outside, but you can take steps to minimize it. After you pick up your certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, take these steps to keep your vehicle's paint safe from pollen.

Wash and Wax

At the end of the winter, be sure to wash and wax your vehicle. That gets all the salt off and puts a protective cover of wax over the paint. This way, the pollen won't eat through the paint as fast. After the first wash and wax of the spring, wash the vehicle often and wax it at least quarterly. Since it's nearly impossible to keep the pollen off of the vehicle, the wax provides a protective barrier between it and the paint.

Parking

When you can, park under cover, either in a carport or a garage. A carport won't keep all of the pollen off the vehicle, but it will minimize it. Even parking in the garage overnight but not during the day while you are at work minimizes the amount of pollen on your vehicle. Using a parking garage during the day is not going to keep all of the pollen off your vehicle since it floats through the air, but it does help to minimize it, especially if you park away from edges and openings.

If you don't have a garage handy, you can also cover the vehicle with a car cover to minimize pollen, especially if it's a vehicle that you don't drive everyday.

Visit Mike Albert Direct

Stop by Mike Albert Direct today to test drive a certified pre-owned vehicle and to learn more about that vehicle's features. As soon as you get it home, give it a good wash and wax to protect the paint from pollen.

The partitions also provide for better security if you choose one without a door or one with a door and a lock.

Tips for Driving with Confidence

Whether you are a new driver or have been driving for several years, you'll always get into situations where you might feel uncomfortable driving, including in snow, on ice, in the rain or in heavy traffic in the best of conditions. The biggest tip for driving your certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct with confidence is to practice driving in those situations. The more you have to drive in situations that make you uncomfortable, the more confidence you'll have.

But Not Too Much Confidence

While driving with confidence is safer than driving in situations that make you uncomfortable, driving with too much confidence could be dangerous. Too much confidence means that you will take chances where you shouldn't; and that could cause an accident.

Drive With Confidence

Aside from driving in uncomfortable situations more often, you could do several things to help improve your confidence. If you are driving in the rain, drive only as fast as you feel is safe. Keep in mind that the posted speed limit is for the best of conditions. In a driving rain, you should not be going the speed limit. You'll have less chance of hydroplaning and spinning out.

When driving on snow, use four-wheel or all-wheel drive if you have it. Make sure the electronic stability control and traction control features are on if your vehicle gives you the option of turning them off. And, ignore the speed limit. Drive slowly if you do have to go out.

When driving in traffic, watch other drivers. While you do have to pay attention to what you are doing, the other driver is usually the one you have to look out for.

Learn How to Spin Out

Driving on ice is never recommended, however you should learn how to control a vehicle when it spins out of control because you hit a patch of black ice or you slide on a rain-soaked oil slick. If you do start spinning, be sure to not make any sudden moves. Turn the wheel in the direction the rear is moving. If you turn it too much, you'll over correct and spin out in the other direction. This skill does take some practice. You can practice in a snowy parking lot that is empty. Start at slow speeds until you get better at it.

Sedan or SUV?

When it's time for a new vehicle and you decide on a certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, you then have to decide on the type of vehicle you want: an SUV or a sedan. If you have a family, either vehicle will work, but you might like to travel a lot, so you might be thinking an SUV would be better. However, you might also need the vehicle for commuting, so you are leaning toward a sedan.

The Sedan

A sedan is great for commuting since most are good on gas and are smaller and easy to park. You do have the trunk to carry luggage or even items needed for work; however, when it comes to taking a road trip with the entire family, space might be tight.

If you get a higher-end sedan, it will usually have a great ride. And, the higher the trim level, the more features you'll get. And this means that your ride is going to be more comfortable, but could still be crowded if you have three kids.

The SUV

Whether you choose a full size SUV or a crossover, you'll have a great vehicle for commuting and road tripping. Though you do have more room in a full size SUV, you still have more room in a crossover than you would in a sedan.

If you choose a crossover, you'll be able to seat up to five people, but the crossover generally has more room than a sedan. Thus, your passengers will be more comfortable. You also have quite a bit of cargo room behind the rear seat. And, most SUV models feature roof rails, so you'll be able to easily add a cargo box if you need more cargo space.

With a full size SUV, you'll still seat five, but passengers will have even more room; and you'll have much more cargo space. Though a larger SUV is harder to park if you need to use it for commuting, you still have a better ride.

Top 5 Tips for Choosing Your Used Car

When you pick a certified pre-owned vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, it's easier than choosing a used vehicle from another source that doesn't offer certified vehicles. Even so, you should be careful when choosing a used vehicle.

Choosing the Right Vehicle

Before you sign on the dotted line or write a check, be sure that the vehicle you choose is what you really want. Whether you choose a sedan, SUV, truck, van or coupe, it's something you'll probably keep for several years. Keep in mind your family's needs, fuel economy, the safety and security features the vehicle offers, and last but not least, the convenience features.

Check the Vehicle Carefully

When you purchase a vehicle from Mike Albert Direct, you can rest assured that the vehicle is what we describe it to be. However, if you choose a vehicle from a used car dealership or from a private individual, you'll have a lot more to look for during your test drive. You'll need to have a technician check the brakes, suspension, steering and engine. Since less-than-honest people might try to turn an engine light off, you should have the vehicle hooked up to a diagnostic machine. Look for signs that the seller turned the odometer back. When you choose us, these are things you don't have to worry about.

Look for a Vehicle with an Affordable Cost to Own

Be sure to do your research if funds are tight or could be tight in years to come. If gas prices increase, you'll want a vehicle with a lower five-year cost of ownership. This includes the initial price, fuel economy and cost of repairs and maintenance.

Green or Not?

If the thought of a hybrid appeals to you, be sure that is something that fits into your family's needs. If you plan on traveling a lot, be sure a hybrid is still efficient after it switches to the gas only engine. If you're using the vehicle for commuting only, you may even consider an electric vehicle.

Work or Play?

If you need a work vehicle, choose a van or work truck. However, if this is a vehicle that needs to be available for double duty, you might choose a crew cab truck or an SUV with removable seats so that you have plenty of room to haul the items you need for work.

Visit Mike Albert Direct

Why a Cargo Van is Good for Business

If you are looking for the perfect vehicle for your business, stop by Mike Albert Direct to test drive a cargo van. You may be wondering why a cargo van is better for business than other vehicles; and there are many reasons including security.

No Large Windows

The sides of the van doesn't have windows, so you have more security since it's harder to see what's inside the van. Whether you have a van full of expensive tools or you have a load of products, that is a temptation for thieves.

Advertising

The closed sides allows you more space to put your business information on the van, which is great for advertising. As you are driving around, those who are interested in your services or products will be able to get your company name, phone number, web site and email address should you choose to have that information on the van.

Protection

Your tools or products are protected from the weather if you have a cargo van. You could have a pickup with a cap on it; however, that set up is easier to break into. And, should the cap leak, your tools or products will get wet. Furthermore, a cargo van lets in less sun, which means less ultraviolet light, which is damaging.

Convenience

With a cargo van, you have access from the front and the rear. If you use a pickup truck, you can't reach anything in the front of the bed without a ladder or without climbing all over everything. If you have a cargo van, you could walk from the front to the back. You could also install shelving along the sides of the van to keep everything you need organized, whereas with a truck, that is not as easy.

Helpful Spring Driving Tips

After you pick up a certified pre-owned vehicle at Mike Albert Direct, you'll be ready for a spring road trip. You will need to keep in mind that the weather can change drastically and rather quickly, and that you shouldn't always rely on the weather forecast for your trip. With that said, you should take certain precautions when driving on a spring road trip.

Mother Nature

During the spring, you have snow melt and rain, and if it's an especially wet spring, mother nature could throw mud slides and flash floods at you. She could also throw a surprise snow storm at you. Always be aware of your surroundings while you are driving, especially if you are in rural areas. This includes strange noises, overly loud roars and crashes, or a sudden change in the sky. Also, be aware of trees leaning over the roadway if the ground is saturated or if there is a strong wind. Those trees may just pick the "right" time to fall onto the road.

Emergency Kit

Just because it's spring doesn't mean you should ditch your winter driving emergency kit. Keep it intact until after the last frost, including the snow shovel and winter gear. This holds true especially if you are taking a road trip in rural and mountainous areas.

Tires

Check your vehicle's tires. Make sure they have plenty of tread. Deeper tread throws water away from the tires better than shallow tread, so if you're even close to 2/32-inch of tread, change your vehicle's tires.

Mechanical

You can still get stranded in the cold because of mechanical issues. Reduce the chance of having something fail by ensuring that your vehicle has been serviced in the last couple months. Even if it has, if you are taking a long road trip, it's always best to check the coolant, brake fluid, brakes, oil, rear and transmission, belts and hoses. Checking these things allows you to have the vehicle repaired before you head out.

Love It or Leave It

Even when you love your vehicle, there's a time to trade it in or sell it, especially if you have some major life changes such as getting married having kids, or if the kids are going out on their own. You may need to upgrade to a larger vehicle or it might be time to scale down a bit to something that gets better gas mileage. Regardless of your situation, Mike Albert Direct has the perfect vehicle for you.

Change in Family Dynamics

If you have a vehicle that's not suitable for children, especially as they grow older, you might be ready to trade it in for a larger sedan, an SUV or a minivan. While coupes are great and some do have room for three kids in the back seat, they're not easy to get into, especially if you have to buckle kids into a car seat. On the other hand, if circumstances are such that the kids are leaving the house, you might get a smaller vehicle, even a coupe, that is better on gas for commuting.

Mechanical Issues

While it's always cheaper to repair a vehicle than it is to buy one, there comes a time when the repairs are more inconvenient than they are worth. It's one thing if you replace the alternator this week and the water pump the next month, but when everything seems like it's going all at once, it might be time to get another vehicle.

Just Because

Sometimes, it's just time to get a new vehicle. There might not be anything wrong with your current vehicle, however, it may be outdated, which means that it doesn't have many of the new safety and security features that the newer vehicles now come with, including rearview cameras, blind spot monitoring, four-wheel ABS brakes, better crumple zones, ignition disable and other safety and security features.

And, you may want new and updated conveniences including Bluetooth, hands free technology, a touch screen, dual zone air conditioning and automatic climate control, it's time to upgrade.

Many vehicles have tons of cameras to help with safe driving. Whether they are in the front or the rear of the vehicle, they help with lane keeping, cross traffic viewing, forward collision assist and blind spot monitoring.

Some vehicles, such as the 2016 Ford Edge and the 2016 Ford Explorer offer available 180-degree wide angle cameras so that the driver can see around corners if the view is obstructed. These work great in parking garages, alleys or sharp corners on the road.

Why You Should Finance Your Car

When you pick up a new car, you have a choice of leasing or financing. Some may choose leasing; however, that option has its downfalls, including limited mileage every year. When you finance a vehicle, you can choose used or new, which gives you even more options. When you can choose a used vehicle, you can get your vehicle from Mike Albert Direct. This means that you could get something almost new for a lot less money.

Benefits of Financing a Car

When you finance a vehicle, you get to keep it as long as you want. If you take care of a vehicle, even a certified pre-owned vehicle, you could get many more years out of it. Eventually, when the vehicle is paid off, you won't have to worry about car payments.

Furthermore, you are not limited to a set number of miles every year. When you lease a vehicle and you go over the allowed mileage, you have to pay a hefty fee for each mile you go over. While $0.10 or $0.35 doesn't sound like a bunch, it definitely adds up.

Making Changes

If you want to change something on your vehicle, such as adding high performance parts, adding accessories to the exterior such as a spoiler or wind guards, you have to remove those things before you turn the vehicle in or risk getting charged so the dealership can do it if you lease a vehicle. When you finance a vehicle, you can make all of the changes you want and won't have to face a penalty.

You could add pin striping, add a spoiler, convert manual door locks to power door locks, add wind guards, hood protectors and anything else you want.

Visit Mike Albert Direct

Stop by Mike Albert Direct today to test drive a certified pre-owned vehicle. Because you are saving money by financing a certified pre-owned vehicle, you may be able to get something at a higher trim level or even a vehicle that is more expensive than something you could afford if you were buying brand new.

Choosing the Right Used Car

When it's time to pick a vehicle, whether it's new or pre-owned, you have several choices to make. Even when you are buying used, you have several choices including trucks, vans, SUV models, crossovers, coupes and sedans.

Once you decide to buy a used vehicle, choose a trusted dealership like Mike Albert Direct. Then browse through our website to see what is available. On that note, our inventory is always changing, so if you don't see something you like today, check tomorrow or give us a call today; as we could have a pre-owned model that is coming in or that is in the middle of being processed.

Picking the Right Type

Picking the right type of vehicle is probably the easiest of choices to make. If you have kids and plan on taking a lot of road trips, you shuttle the kids and sometimes their friends back and forth to school and school events or if you carpool, an SUV or minivan is the best option. If you need something to haul tools to work or if you need something to haul landscaping products throughout the year, then a pickup truck or a work van might be better suited to your needs.

And, if you travel a lot for work or take road trips with just one other person - your spouse or a friend, a sedan might be more viable. Get a coupe if you want a "toy" or if you are single, just married or the kids are out of the house.

Picking the Right Brand

Choosing an auto manufacturer is a personal choice. To help with the choice, research the various brands to see which one best fits your needs. For trucks, you may want to look at how much a particular truck will tow; while for SUV models, you might look at safety and convenience features.

Top Cleaning Tips to Make Your Car Look New Again

When you drive your vehicle through the sludge of winter, it can start looking old. If you are planning on trading it in at Mike Albert Direct or if you just want your car to look new again, take some steps to detail it properly. Consider it spring cleaning for your car.

Getting All of the Dirt

Use an air compressor to blow dirt from all of the nooks and crannies on the floor and under the seats to the middle of the carpet. Once you find all of the hidden dirt, it's easier to vacuum it all up. Use a stiff brush to loosen dirt that may be ground into the carpets and upholstery. And, if your vehicle has a leather interior, use a conditioner with aloe for the seats.

Get that New Car Smell

If you want to get that new car smell, blow the dust and dirt out of the heating and air conditioning ducts. Aim high pressure from an air compressor at the walls of the ducts behind the vent grilles. The dirt and dust that sticks there causes a musty smell. And, don't forget to change the cabin air filter if your vehicle is equipped with one.

Clean the Tires

Get that stubborn brake dust and other dirt off your wheels. It's best to use a non-acid cleaner, though you'll have to scrub harder. Acidic cleaners will cause alloy wheels to pit and become oxidized. It will also damage painted wheels or wheels with clear coatings. You could also use a degreaser on the wheels, but be careful not to splash it on the paint, as it will damage the paint.

Washing and Waxing

Wash your vehicle, preferably by hand. Once that's done, wax it with a good quality wax. You should wax your vehicle at least every six months and you should wash it more often, especially if you do a lot of winter driving and get salt on the vehicle. If you use dish soap on your vehicle when you wash it, you'll have to wax it more often as the dish soap strips all of the wax off.

And, happy employees mean that they care more about their job; and that shows in their interactions with customers.

When to Trade-In

How do you know when it's time to trade your vehicle in at Mike Albert Direct? The answer is a matter of knowing your vehicle. You want to be able to get a lot of use out of it, but you don't want it so trashed that it's not worth anything to anyone. If you take care of a vehicle, it could have over 200,000 miles on it and last even longer. While the mileage will cause the worth to drop, you'll still get more for it than you would with a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles on it that wasn't cared for.

Mileage

Some people will keep a vehicle until it no longer runs, and this is fine if you don't plan on getting anything for the vehicle. That said, if you want to trade a vehicle in, it should have a respectable number of miles on it, preferably less than 150,000. Vehicles with more miles might be in the best of condition, but they are more difficult to sell; and others do not want to purchase a vehicle with that many miles on it.

Interior

If you notice that the interior is wearing out, it's time to do something to keep it from wearing out anymore; and it's probably time to trade it in so that the next person is able to get some use out of the vehicle. Wear items include carpets, seat coverings, foot pedals, the steering wheel and the shift knob. You can make these items last longer by protecting them with covers. A steering wheel cover keeps the wheel in good shape. Seat covers protect the seats from wearing and showing ground in dirt.

Exterior and Mechanics

Since the exterior and mechanics are the most expensive to fix, you'll want these things to be in good shape in order to get the most out of a trade in. This means that the paint should be in good condition, the vehicle should be washed and waxed; and if there is anything wrong with the mechanics, it should be minor. If you have a blown head gasket, you're not going to get as much for the vehicle as you would if it was in great running condition.

Retaining Your Car's Value

Whether you purchase a new vehicle or pick up a used model from Mike Albert Direct, you'll want to do all you can to retain the vehicle's value. There are several things you can do to help your vehicle retain its value, even if you buy a pre-owned vehicle.

Exterior Care

Keep your vehicle washed and waxed. Bird droppings, dirt and pollen wear on the paint. If you keep the vehicle clean and keep a coat of wax between the paint and the elements, the paint will stay brighter and intact longer. Even clear coat over the paint eventually wears off because of the elements, if you don't take care of it.

Keep the vehicle's rims clean, especially if they are alloy, aluminum or chrome. Eventually, they'll get so dirty that you won't be able to clean them without damaging the finish.

Clean the engine compartment every six months. This serves two purposes. With a clean engine compartment the value of the vehicle is higher; and it allows you to more easily notice when something is leaking.

Make sure you wash the undercarriage of the vehicle, too, especially after the winter. You'll want to get any salt buildup off of the frame and out of the fender wells as salt is corrosive to metal and paint.

Interior Care

If you have cloth seats, use seat covers to protect the material. Use rubber mats in the winter instead of carpeted floor mats. If you're prone to spilling things or you have kids, you should use rubber floor mats all year. Keep the carpets vacuumed, even if you have rubber floor mats. Use your vacuum's crevice tool to get into hard-to-reach places such as between the seats and the console or under the seats.

Use a steering wheel cover to protect the steering wheel. The sun kills vinyl, plastic and leather, so use a sun shade in the windshield if you are parked outside. Keep the various materials inside the vehicle clean with the appropriate cleaners including all plastic, wood, vinyl and leather.

5 Awesomely Useful Car Accessories

When you pick up a pre-owned vehicle at Mike Albert Direct, you may want to grab some useful car accessories to go with it. These accessories make driving and even waiting in the vehicle easier and in some cases, safer.

DashGrip Gel Pads

These gel pads are easy to apply and easy to keep clean. Stick one on your dash to hold change, your phone, a loose key or anything else that you don't want to slide all over the place. This is a great place to hold change for the toll.

Digital Tire Gauge

Pick up a digital tire gauge to check your vehicle's tires. Most vehicles do have a tire pressure monitoring system; however, you may want to check the tire pressure yourself, especially when you are airing up the tires. This is useful at night since the screen and nozzle light up, making it easier to check the tires at night.

Seat Belt Cutter and Window Breaker

While you should hopefully never have to use this, this is a great tool to keep within reach. If you crash and need to get out of the vehicle, it will cut a seat belt that is stuck and will also break a window that won't go down when the door won't open.

Wet/Dry Vacuum

Instead of hauling out a heavy vacuum cleaner, keep this small wet/dry vacuum in the vehicle. It'll be much easier to clean up messes, especially if you have kids or adults that are constantly dropping fries in the vehicle.

Leakproof Litter Basket

This is one of those accessories that is a necessity. Everyone eats and drinks in the car. Instead of throwing the trash on the floor, you'll have a place to keep it until you can get to a place to throw it out. And, it'll ensure that the last little bit of soda won't leak out onto the carpets.

Winter Tires vs All-Season Tires

You may be wondering if you should switch to winter tires instead of all-season or summer tires. If your vehicle has summer tires on it, you should have switched to winter tires long ago. If not, it's time to visit Mike Albert Direct to get it done since the warmer weather of November and December of 2015 are all but gone, so you can expect lots of snow.

To know whether you'll need to switch to winter tires from all-season tires, you'll have to know the difference between the two types of tires; and you'll have to determine whether the area you live in warrants changing to winter tires.

All-Season Tires

Most vehicles come with all-season tires from the factory. These tires work well in dry conditions and for light winter driving. They also grip well on wet roads. These tires have tread and sidewalls that are designed for driving in several different conditions. However, all-season tires do have to make some compromises. They are not good in maximum summer conditions nor are they good in maximum winter conditions.

Winter/Snow Tires

Winter tires are the best option for heavy snow and unpredictable winter roads. You'll need the most traction in these conditions and winter tires have the tread depth and patterns, the type of rubber, and sidewall construction to handle the snow.

The Difference

All-season tires have tread rubber that becomes stiff when it gets cold; and the stiffer the tire, the less traction you'll have in winter conditions. The tread rubber on winter tires is designed to stay flexible in cold temperatures so that it grips the road better.

Winter tires also feature deeper tread patterns. When you drive in the snow, it tends to build up in the tread. The tread on winter tires is deep enough to force the snow to fall out whereas the tread on all-season tires is not deep enough to allow the snow to fall out of the tread. Winter tires also have tiny slits in the tread. This feature helps to provide traction on ice.

If you don't have any credit, it is often difficult to get credit. However, if you prequalify, we'll be able to find a lender that works with those who have no credit. While we can do this on the lot, it does take some time to locate a lender with the best rates. When you prequalify, we can be working on finding the best rates for you before you even come by the showroom to shop our models. These car loans help you to establish credit history so that it is easier to get a car loan for your next vehicle purchase.

Avoid Frustration and Embarrassment

When we know ahead of time what your credit is like, we can shop around for a loan that meets your needs. Whether you have no credit or poor credit, we'll be able to shop around before you even get here. This saves you time and it also saves you the frustration of waiting because some lenders will turn you down. If possible, we'll have a lender all ready for you so that all you have to do is pick out your vehicle and sign the documents.
